The Honda Cars India Limited has become the third largest car producer in India in 2014 because of the popularity enjoyed by two of its vehicles. The sedan Honda City was their best selling model in India since its inception. But the compact sedan Honda Amaze is also growing in popularity day by day. The Honda Amaze was launched in April 2013 and has recorded a total sales of 1 lakh units recently.
The Honda Amaze has 7 petrol and 6 diesel variants priced between Rupees 5.19 and 8.20 lakh. 2 of the petrol variants have auto transmission. The Amaze comes in colours of majestic blue, crystal black pearl, urban titanium metallic, Carnelian red pearl, Alabaster silver metallic and taffeta white.
The Honda Amaze is the sedan version of the hatchback Brio. The boot was added quite fittingly to the hatch. A modified roof line, crease lines on the sides and new design wheels make the sedan different from the Brio. The Amaze has conventional clear lens head lamps, body coloured bumpers and electrically operated body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators.
The cabin of the Amaze has a manual AC, fabric seats, an engine immobiliser, child lock and central locking facilities, tilt and power steering, power windows and internally adjustable ORVMs as standard features. The higher variants have 2 airbags at the front, ABS, EBD, electrically operated body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators and a 2 Din music system with CD/MP3 players, AM/FM radio and auxiliary and USB connectivity. The 1.2 VX(O) and 1.5 VX(O) variants in petrol and diesel launched on 13th January 2014 have an added AVN package with a 15.7 cm screen display that has maps and voice command navigation facility.

The Amaze is powered by 1196 cc, 86 bhp, 109 NM torque petrol engines mated to 5 speed manual or auto transmission. The diesel variants have 1498 cc, 98 bhp and 200 NM maximum torque engines coupled to 5 speed manual gear box. The mileages are 18 kmpl for the petrol and 25.8 for the diesel variants and the top speeds 150 kmph.
The dimensions of the Amaze are 3990 mm length, 1680 mm width, 1505 mm height, 2405 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance with a boot of 400 litres. The suspensions are the McPherson strut at the front and the Torsion beam at the rear. The brakes are the disc type at the front and the drum type at the rear on the R14 tyres.
Top mileages and a segmental best boot space are the plus points of the Amaze. The competition comes from the sedans like the Tata Indigo eCS, the Maruti Swift Dzire, the Toyota Etios and the Hyundai Xcent.
